Dress For Yourself

Dress for yourself

By: Jus Labang & the U4U team

What percentage of the time do you wear exactly what you want to wear?

How often do you dress to ‘just fit into the crowd’?

Do you ever think, “I want to change up my look!”

Express yourself & be U! Its time to start Dressing for YOURSELF, not others.

Find your muse

A muse is a personification or inspiration for the subject at hand. For me, I’ve personally been finding constant inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram, and countless Youtube videos. And, I’ve been inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Coco Chanel, and Audrey Hepburn because what sets them apart from the rest is that they are undoubtedly true to their own fashion style. When I discovered Audrey Hepburn, I would take a deep dive on all her outfits and movies to find inspiration. The way she would make a simple black dress so elegant taught me that less is truly more. Your muse may be a goth or manga star or??? Find your muse & dive in!

Reinvent your Self-Image

When we post on social media, it’s either for ourselves, documentation, or for validation. I’m always dressing up for myself, without always having the intention of posting. How I dress is a reflection of how I feel that day. In other words, my mood.

On most days, we as humans feel a variety of emotions. These will usually transition into your clothing as well. Wearing gray or black comfortable clothes to represent how sad or less optimistic we are that day.

If you want to brighten up your mood, try wearing your favorite sweater or t-shirt that never lets you down. Maybe a bright-colored cardigan can really uplift your day. Express the unapologetic version of yourself, and you’ll feel a whole lot better. We’ve all been there, and dressing for the ‘self image’ you desire can really put you many steps closer to becoming what you want to feel.

Self Expression

Clothes are such a fun way to express yourself. Hopefully these ideas will boost your perception of how to create outfits and what to look for the next time you’re shopping.

Step out of your comfort zone when it comes to clothing, and it could spark a new hobby of digging through thrift store isles or scavenging online discount-priced oversized cotton sweaters. Wherever inspiration finds you, start dressing up for yourself ASAP. Step out of the boring crowd. Want to start small? Start with accessories & go on from there!
